Amazon Prime is the only streaming service with a cost that also gets you free shipping, and that my friends is a deal. They’ve in the Original programming game, but their biggest offering remains the ton of films available to watch anytime for Prime members.
The complete list of titles hitting Amazon Prime this month — September 2018 — is below, but first I’m going to shower some affection and point some eyeballs towards a few specific titles.

Amazon Prime Pick of the Month
2008’s The Strangers is a creepy as hell horror thriller about a home invasion that ends horribly for everyone but the invaders. The sequel lacks the scares, and its first half features some pretty dumb character beats, but as The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018) heads into its third act it does so with style, thrills, and some surprising story turns. Add in a killer soundtrack and some eye-catching visuals, and you have an atypically fun slasher flick. It slices its way onto Prime on 9/4.

70s Burt Reynolds

The 1970s saw Burt Reynolds rise to international stardom — he was the top box-office draw for five years straight — and two of his more entertaining films from the decade are new to Prime this month. The Longest Yard (1974) got a remake in 2005, but Robert Aldrich’s original is a fun and satisfying flick as rowdy underdogs take on their oppressors. Smokey and the Bandit (1977) was Reynolds’ biggest hit as a leading man, and it remains a casual blast of “good ol’ boy” humor, stunts, and the adorable Sally Field. Both films show a strong anti-authoritarian streak paired with big laughs, and if you haven’t seen them yet now’s your chance.

New New New

Like most streaming services Prime is heavy on the catalog titles, but new films find a home here too. Future World (2018) arrives first on 9/2, but you’ll wish it hadn’t — hoo boy is this James Franco joint garbage. Beirut (2018) hits on 9/4 and is a solid political thriller from Brad Anderson starring Jon Hamm. The always fantastic Saoirse Ronan headlines the sweetly serious period piece On Chesil Beach (2018) starting 9/15. Hopeful “it-boy” Timothée Chalamet stars in Hot Summer Nights (2018) opposite the under-appreciated Maika Monroe on 9/22. Finally, Escape Plan 2: Hades (2018) sees Sylvester Stallone once again tossed into an escape-proof prison, and you can see if he escapes anyway starting 9/27.
